College essays come in different forms and for your writing assignment to be the best, there are several rules that you need to follow. Although you are not sure of what the teacher expects, your essay will be termed as successful if you are able to prove a point. A basic college essay should have a five-paragraph structure.

Introduction

The introduction contains the opening line that may be a generalization with regard to life and must be related to the topic. Alternatively, it may be a quotation or an anecdote. The aim is to attract the attention of the reader. A mini-thesis can act as the conclusion of this paragraph.

Body paragraph one

This paragraph should be opened using a transitional sentence. According to essay writing tips, it should provide the reader with the initial part of the evidence that is meant for supporting the thesis. Your argument should then be supported by citing the evidence. If the themes are too many and different, the essay will become confusing.

Body paragraph two and three

In addition to having a transitional sentence, the rules are similar to those of paragraph one. The second theme is picked here, in support of the thesis statement and the evidence must be cited. The rules of paragraph one also appliy to paragraph three. The transitional sentence leads the reader from one theme to another.

Conclusion

This paragraph is meant for wrapping up the essay. In this paragraph, it is a requirement when writing essays that a mini-thesis is included. Thise statement acts as the closing tag-line. Even if a college paper is written immaculately, it is well researched and organized but it lacks a conclusion, readers are left confused and dumbfounded. However, you can drop some extra details that will provoke the readers into thinking more.

Note that this is just a sketch that you use when writing an essay. With topics that are complicated, the evidentiary topics will infinitely be more than three. Even when the theme is only one, consistency plays a big role. When a single piece of evidence is supported by about three paragraphs, all the sequential facts must have the same number of paragraphs.
